Last year's Oinktoberfest has come and gone in what seemed to be a flash with record crowds, record number of teams and for only the second time in six years, near perfect weather. Its now 2008 and we are preparing to beat last year's records on Sept 26 - 28.

Now in its 7th year, Oinktoberfest is one of the premiere events in Western New York and is still part of Western New York's biggest family event, the Great Pumpkin Farm's Fall Festival. We will again have many of the teams selling barbecue to make this WNY's #1 taste of BBQ.

Last year's competition on Saturday, a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned event and official NY State Championship was sold out of space with 50 teams from across the Northeast & Canada. This year we are opening it up for even more teams. We are also offering a limited selection of premium sites to accommodate those that need to be able to pull through their trailers, rvs, or just want a larger space. These will be available on a first come (paid) first served basis. More details and a downloadable application will be available shortly.

For this year, Sunday's event will be renamed the Outdoor Cooking Contest to more clearly reflect the actual cooking being done. Anything goes, as long as it is outdoors: grilling, smoking, frying, baking, steaming, braising... you get the idea. Categories are chicken wings, sausage, any pork except ribs, any side dish and dessert. A very popular category that was new last year was Chili. This year there will be a separate Chili Cookoff. Teams may independently enter either or both.

Many thanks to all who have participated in past years. Last year alone we had over 100 judges & volunteers, 84 teams and countless thousands of attendees. We are looking forward to this year and hope to make this another record.
